Caller ID on Followme

Post by mydssbin »

Thank you for great service!!

My question is caller ID on Followme. I have followme setup. When someone call my freephonline.ca # it forwards to my cell phone. On my cell phone the caller ID shows up as "unknown Number". What i want to know is there a way to pass the originating caller id to followme then to my cell phone?

If you please let me know the steps to get this done.

Thanks

This should always be the case, the original caller-id being passed through the followme sequence. Could you pass me your number and I will look into why this might be happening?

Could you also tell me the carrier of the cell phone (I'm guessing) you're forwarding to, and any other followme numbers you may have set up?

What would the phone company see as the number coming through to the cellphone, the FPL number or the original caller ID. Who would they be consider would be calling.

Followme is basically a re-direct; the carrier (phone company) would see the original caller-id of the person who called your Freephoenline.ca number. The company would see the original caller-id of the person calling.

It's hard to say as several different results have been observed,
1st, what SHOULD happen:
When someone calls and your FPL forwards them, THEIR contact info (CID/ANI/CNAM) *should* be brought forward with the call.

2nd, what HAS happened:
a)Obviously, the above has been seen to happen
b)On Telus while I was going to school if I setup follow-me, I received calls from my number free of charge (student plan fave10)
c)It's easy for call data to get dropped/blocked/lost over the many hops, this is what you're seeing.

3rd, what CAN be done
Assuming you can't see the caller information forwarded, it could be possible to use an asterisk box to receive then bridge/forward the call to your cell, thus providing the CID from your VoIP account that's been set-up for dialing out from the asterisk box.
For examples of 3rd option here look up the history of a device from the era of the phreak called a "cheese-box" about which there was recently (I believe summer 2009) an article released about setting up a VoIP based Cheese-box using asterisk in "2600 magazine"
