Hello,
I have answering machine AT&T CL4940.
My VOIP adapter is Linksys SPA-2102
So I have 2 options to setup the voicemail:
1) using freephoneline.ca voice mail. To check voice mail - dial *98
2) using answering machine voice mail system only (without freephoneline.ca voice mail). In this case I see I have new messages on the phone display.
So I wonder is there any way to use freephoneline.ca voicemail system (without answering machine voicemail) and to display on the phone display that I have some new messages on freephoneline.ca? That means there is no need to call *98 to check if I have any new messages, because the new messages will be displayed on the phone display.

Depending on your handset, you can get a Msg Waiting indication. If that doesnt show, you will get a stutter tone on your hand set when you draw Dial Tone which means you have voicemail. You will also get an email indicating a message was left if you have it setup like that, on the web interface. I find between the email message and the stutter tone I have plenty of indication of an existing voicemail.

hanke: thank you for your reply.
Yes, I am aware about email notification.
Could you please tell me more about Msg Waiting indication? I don't have it... Do I need to change something on the VOIP adapter config? What parameters should I change?
Thank you.

Re: VoiceMail + answering machine
It should be working as default.
The FPL system does not work instantly though, sometimes there can be a 20 minute delay from when a message is left to when the MWI comes on, the same when you clear the message.
IMO the FPL voicemail system is far from perfect so if missed calls are important to you then I would also suggest the email option. Even if you use the copy option so it sends an email and leaves the voicemail for you to pick up.

Jake: I think it's not set by default..
So the parameter (in voip adapter) I should take a look is called "MWI", right?

You should find that if you change that setting the MWI will start to flash on the phone.
As far as I know you don't have to enable this feature on your ATA anywhere.
I will be honest and say I don't use the FPL voicemail system, I make my PBX I have set up here deal with missed calls. I haven't however changed anything in the PAP2T I use to enable the MWI function. I have set up a few people with PAP2Ts connected to FPL and their MWI is working fine. They all connect straight to FPL like I am assuming you are. Again, I didn't change anything in their ATA.
The thing to do is test it. Leave a message, wait a good hour (just to be on the safe side) and see if your MWI starts to show on your phone. If it doesn't, take a look in the ATA and see if that MWI flag has changed to true, or try a different phone.

Re: VoiceMail + answering machine
Sorry, no. The MWI has been an ongoing thing with FPL for such a long time that I resorted to using the email function. I would suggest that if you are getting the broken tone indicating there is a message, your ATA is getting the signal from FPL. So now you need to see why it is not being sent to the phone. I'm not sure what setting might effect this on the ATA, and I do not know that phone. It could be that somewhere along you managed to change a setting that will effect things, so a factory reset on the ATA and then set it up again may fix things.

Re: VoiceMail + answering machine
I just noticed that I am having same problems as other guys here.
I am having stutter tone when there are no voice messages, and vs - no stutter tone when I have voice messages.
Any way to solve that?
