Adding Google's 411 to dail plan

Post by Red89GT »

I currently use the standard dial plan provided by FPL

Code: Select all

(911|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|1xxxxxxxxxx|011xxxxxxxxxxxx.|98*|[6-7]x*xxxxxxxxxxx.) “Line
What I would like to know is how to add Google 411 to this dial plan. Googles 411 # is 18004664411

Would this be possible?
Im using a PAP2T-NA

Thanks,
Red.

Code: Select all

(911|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|1xxxxxxxxxx|011xxxxxxxxxxxx.|98*|[6-7]x*xxxxxxxxxxx.|<411:8004664411>)
I believe this would be it, please test and correct if I am wrong! :)

I don't get it adding a number to the dial plan. I mean what will adding Google's free 411 number to the dial plan do more if I can just dial it on the phone, the call still gets through.

Thanks for answer it will probably lead to more knowledge for me.

The idea is simply that you simplify the dialing process.
What this dial-plan accomplishes is making it such that if you pick up and dial 411 (as many will do by instinct for D.A.) it dials the free Goog411 Directory Assistance.
On top of simplifying the process for you the informed user, it will simplify for grandma when she's house-sitting for you and your dog, and needs to order chinese.

(Edit:)
Might be worth asking permission to make that an official dial-plan suggestion

(Edit2:)
Typo correction, you'll see it in the quote below.

For me its just easier to remember 411 VS's some 1-800 number.

I deleted those last 2 posts, sorry Bloodsong ;)

Since we're in direct competition with Google Voice it would be ill advised of us to send them all our 411 calls. Decision is still on the table of course, and it's been strongly advised by Steve and I that it's done. Right now if you dial 411 it will be linked to 411.ca.

I was thinking someone may have spoke to them when I saw that first monster of a hammer. Heh heh.

And I don't know about Direct Competition, GV isn't really servicing the Canadian market, or even accepting new subscribers.
But definitely when this happens that will be the result.
Unless somehow FPL and it's parents perform a hostile take over on that giant in the meantime LOL.

Google, even in all their power, probably won't be able to get access to the Canadian phone market since Bell has demonstrated again and again that they basically own the CRTC and they make the rules about what happens with telecommunications in Canada.

CRTC's opinion is that competition is bad, and American competition in particular is heresy.

Then again, Google could probably buy Canada with some money they find in the couch... that would solve the problem and probably start some good things happening in the process

What a show, this CRTC. Every time they get their nose into something that is suffering form lack of competition, it ends up being worse. Just look at the whole DSL mess. The whole throttling issue, and the change of resell characteristics without prior notice that small ISP fought for. Customers are getting shafted with CRTC's permission.

At least the Do Not Call list seems to work, right?

Hey guys,

just a heads up, google is shutting down their 411 service as of Nov 12.

Microsoft still has Bing 411 for the mean time.

1-800-Bing-411
(1-800-246-4411)

Cheers.
