Help with Obi100 new setup : No outgoing Ring once incoming.

Post by naimc »

Hello,

I purchased a OBI100 for my dad. Created a new account for him and we purchase the VOIP unlock key and started number port from Videotron.

I configured the device in my home (Montreal) was able to place and receive calls. ( followed simple setup from here : http://blog.voipdiy.com/2013/07/freepho ... bi100.html)

I shipped the device to my dad. (Quebec City) He installed it on his network pluged his phone in the OBI100. We connected to device via LAN, device says "Registered"

When I call his number it will ring (my phone service also is with Freephoneline.ca) , he pick's up the phone but it continues to ring from my end.. and on his end line is dead.
When he tries to call out, gets dial tone enters number then nothing silence on the line.
I spent about 2 hours trying different settings, Port forwarding on his router Dlink 601. nothing works
When my dad tries to call his Freephoneline.ca temp number from his Videotron voip phone or cell phone he gets a number not in service error.

My dad's current phone service is with Videotron and I know it's also VOIP. Could he have conflict with the Videotron setup ?
He received an email today saying his number port would be completed on January 22 2014, could the porting process be the source of the issues.

Hi there,

Not sure why you used a the blog link to setup Obi. There are easier steps to setup this- please see below:

Please reset your OBI to factory defaults:

http://www.obihai.com/faq/How-to-Factory-Reset

Delete all your Profiles setup on Obitalk website.

Add device again to your profile, and select Freephonelie as a provider. Enter your credentials nad it should be good.

Please send me PM with the telephone number associated with your account once you did the above.

Thanks,
naimc

thank you for the suggestion.

I did not know about the OBI100 configuration web based method that worked very well, unfortunatly I once the deivce was configured it still did not work.

I was suspecting my Dad's Videotron Arris TM502G voip cable modem and the Dlink 601 setup as the source of the issue. ( double NAT).

I installed phonerlite (http://phonerlite.de/) on my Dad's PC, great app because it has a debug feature which show you all of the Call traffic. PhoneLite had same issue as the OBI100.

I then realized that my dad's Dlink 601 was running on the original firmware. I did an update going from firmware version 1 to 1.04 and after that everything worked the properly, the Obi100 and the Phonerlite app.

Leason learned : when having connection issue on a new setup make sure your router is running the latest firmware.
