PAP2T "Can't connect to login server"

Post by KSV »

Hi everyone.

Searched all over the Internet, but can't figure out one very annoying problem. I set up my PAP2T-NA with FPL and everything works perfectly until... my internet connection drops down. The router (D-LINK DIR-825) successfully reestablishes it, but I have no dialtone and PAP2T reports that is "Can't connect to login server" :o I found interesting that if I restart the router and do nothing with ATA - everything start to work fine again after next registration attempt (180 sec interval). Or I can powercycle ATA - works as well. I tried DHCP and Static IPs, I tried to set ISP DNS manually on ATA and use Manual query, I set to Yes "NAT Mapping Enable" and "NAT Keep Alive Enable" - nothing helps. Port forwarding (5060-6061 range) activated. ATA is set to use Port 6060.

Another strange thing noticed is PAP2T firmware. It says 3.1.15 (LS). Although for PAP2T version is should be 5.x.x range while older PAP2 has last version as 3.1.23 LS. So why I have such discrepancy? Label and Info page state that model is PAP2T.

And lastly I can't seem to debug the this beast. I downloaded 3Com Syslog/TFTP deamon and set debug level to 3, but the log doesn't show much info other than "System started: ip@192.168.0.150, reboot reason:W4". So how can I trace the reason it can't connect?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think FPL uses port 5060 only.

For debugging and tracing network information I suggest using Wireshark or Smart Sniff (Network Protocol Analyzer tools).
Both are free for download with a simple google search.

As far as all documentation states, you should be able to use any of the four ports mentioned above, and several people have tested this by having more than one FPL account hosted by a single ATA device. (Thus requiring separate connection ports to maintain connection to both lines.)

Thank you Bloodsong for suggesting a sniffer, but will it work on the switch provided by the router? I can't do port mirroring to capture traffic between ATA and the router.

Does any one know if 3.1.23 LS is bug free firmware?
