No dial tone

Post by forward »

Hello everyone,

I am in a very weird situation. I use CISCO SPA122 as the ATA apapter. This ATA worked well with FPL for about two months before (despite the fact I need to reboot it every once a while but still workable) and just started to have no dial tone starting from the past week. I thought it might be a hardware problem, so I brought the SPA122 and the phone to my friend's house but it worked there (means the SPA122 and phone are not the problem?). I also bypassed the router to connect the modem directly with SPA122 and still got no dial tone(means the router is not the problem?). I used the same ISP and modem as my friend's house where I tested the SPA122 and the phone (means the ISP and the modem are not the problem? The internet works without problem). I also changed the phone cord and cable cord but still made no difference. It went through when you called but the phone would not ring. I have contacted FPL several days ago and they forced a registration. But since the ATA and the phone worked at my friend's house, I do not really think FPL is where the problem lies. However, I really could not figure out what went wrong. Could you please give me some advice? Thanks a lot!

Updated: A friend just brought his SPA112 and phone to my house (which works in his own house). I replaced the phone and his phone shows "check tel line" (no wonder there is no dial tone...maybe my phone is too old to tell me to check tel line???). One thing I forgot to mention is sometimes the SPA122 shows more LED indicators than it supposed to. For example, the line 2 light is on while no line was plugged. It also happened to the SPA112 my friend just brought in. Really weird.
