Ring and voice go to different audio device
The FPL client sends all audio to the same default audio device, for both ring tone and speech. When the default audio device is headset, nobody can hear ringing for incoming call unless you happen to wear the headset. When the default audio device is on-board sound card, ring tone can goes to external speaker, but you are unable to talk with the headset. As I know, some soft SIP client can select defferent devices for ring tone and voice, the ring tone goes to sound card, and the speech goes to headset. I hope to see this improvement in FPL client.

You are going to be stuck with this problem until the freephoneline client uses a better programming language than JAVA, which is probably not going to happen for a while. There is always a chance SUN will fix that issue, instead of releasing the usual frequent useless update.

Don't blame Java. Attached is the screenshot of a soft phone (CounterPath's soft phone for IBM Sametime) settings, which is written in Java. It can send ring tone and headset to different devices.bridonca wrote:You are going to be stuck with this problem until the freephoneline client uses a better programming language than JAVA, which is probably not going to happen for a while. Re: Ring and voice go to different audio device
I'm not a programmer, so take this with a grain of salt, but I know there are some obstacles to overcome with changing audio devices in Java. It's likely that Counterpath is using some other object or script to handle the device switching - I've seen some discussion upon googling this issue that it can be a problem.jchen wrote:Don't blame Java. Like I say - I'm no programmer though! We're always trying to improve the softphone and definitely have not forgotten about this request!

The point of Java is cross platform apps: Linux, Windows, Mac, etc.
FWIW, android cell phones use Java for their apps.
