Pls help with FPL desktop app

Post by nam »

Dear experts,

I've been trying to configure the desktop (PC) version of freephoneline but I could not get it to work.

here's what I did:
- downloaded and installed the latest version (3.2.7.0)
- assigned a static IP to my PC
- forwarded the following ports: 5060,5061,6060,6061,13000,13001 to the PC
- turned off the firewall
- pinged to voip.freephoneline.ca and it worked (no loss)
- tested the ports using PFPortChecker from Portforward.com. All ports were open and accessible

However, the desktop phone is still not working. See the error message in the image

Please help

Thank you
N.

What isn't working with it? I often get reports like that when I run tests, but it still works. I hardly ever turn it on, but I do for testing every now and again and it always seems to work.

Are you not connecting? unable to make a call?

I would first uninstall and reinstall it just in case there was a problem. I would also suggest double checking all firewalls (3rd party and windows) to make sure nothing is blocking it. There has been several people reporting that the firewall did not have rules in them to allow the app.

Do you have another computer you can try it on?

I uninstalled and then reinstalled the app on my desktop. Then I turned off all the firewalls (windows and McCaffee). PFPortchecker indicated that the ports are accessible. It did not work. Still unable to make and receive calls from my desktop.

I installed the app on my laptop. I turned off the router and connected my laptop DIRECTLY to the modem. It worked. I was able to make calls.
I can make calls with my laptop, but it will be very inconvenient because each time I want to make a call then I have to shut the router down which will affect other computers and apps in my network

Let me know if you have other tips.

For the record my router is: Netgear WPN 824

Thank you

The WPN824 is an almost a 10 year old router! It is time to get a new one (preferable a router that is DD-WRT capable), because it never did handle VOIP or port forwarding very well. I re purposed mine as an access point, but eventually tossed it because the wifi would stall once in a while, and would need a power down to reset it. I suppose it would still make a reasonable switch if I needed more ethernet ports.

I still think you got a firewall somewhere in the way of the FPL client. Software firewalls are close to useless as you can get, especially if you are already because a hardware firewall like a router. I will give you a hint on what new viruses and malware go after first!
