Slow iOS Performance?

Post by d4m1r »

Has anybody else noticed the slow performance of the free Fongo iOS app? While stability has been improved immensily over the past few months, performance has actually been getting worse....

The biggest problems are with navigating between menus (2-3 second delay between switching screens) and worst of all.....Loading SMS messages (which takes 20-30 sec everytime). Why does it take so long to load my existing text messages? It takes the same amount of long time, regardless if I am connected to the internet or not, which leads me to believe SMS are stored locally on my phone (if I can see them without an active internet connection on my phone) but it still takes 20 to 30 seconds?!?

What is going on? I has no other apps running in the background, have a perfect signal to my home wifi, and all other apps run perfectly fine (speed wise) on my iPhone...Opening the SMS tab used to be faster, like 10-15 seconds a few months ago but now it is even worse, not better...

We have not heard many complaints regarding slow performance of the iOS app. I might suggest uninstalling the app and then reinstalling from the App Store but please note: this will delete all call history and messages from the app. It also depends on what model you have, models below iPhone 5 which have upgraded to iOS 8 simply will not perform as well due to less memory, cpu, etc. Keep in mind the 4S is a 3 year old phone now. If you still need help, you can submit a support ticket: http://support.fongo.com/anonymous_requests/new

Hey Jeff, thanks for the reply.

Actually, it is a iPhone 4 that is being used with iOS 5.1.1. The phone is still super fast (why I won't upgrade it) and runs all other apps perfectly fine.

Is the Fongo iOS app a native app or built using something like Cardova/Phonegap/etc? I bet no matter what model iPhone you have or what iOS version it is running, there is delay when navigating to the SMS page within the app, before all your messages are actually displayed with all the correct Contact names associated....Are you able to prove otherwise? :) I only have my own case to draw from currently..

It is a native app.

iOS 6 is the minimum version we now support for Fongo Mobile so the app you are using is in fact an old version, I'm not sure what version you are running but we just release 3.5.5 to the App Store today.

I don't dispute that if you have a lot of messages and contacts that it will perform slower on an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1 with an older version of the app. Using an iPhone 5S or 6 with updated iOS and Fongo app, the transition to the message screen is instant, there is no delay.
