vpn and freephoneline ?

hi i just register to freephoneline and i like this freeservice.

i'm in quebec province and just to be sure if the fact i use normally a vpn can cause trouble. if my ip are in usa because the vpn or if i need to desactive my vpn to use freephoneline

i dont know what kind of rules you have about that. i have this vpn included on my avast antivirus

Using a VPN for a service like freephoneline is a good idea. It is a layer of security, though not great, because there are still too many endpoints that are wide open. The best reason for using a VPN is that it stops your ISP from looking through your traffic easily. That makes it harder for them to shape your traffic.

There are some things you need to consider. First, SIP VOIP, of which freephoneline uses, need to use UDP traffic, and your VPN need to be able to pass UDP traffic. Open VPN does it, most other VPN solutions do not.

Using a VPN, there is a slight delay in the VOIP traffic, and you might notice it in the conversation. It probably will not be an issue, but it is something to consider.

I have not yet seen a easy to configure VPN solution that works with VOIP. If you know of any, please let me know.

In addition to Bridonca's reply, there are no 'rules' against using a VPN, as long as you can get it to work Your IP can be virtually or physically located anywhere in the world, it does not have to be a Canadian IP.
