Using Fongo at Work

Post by NathanCS »

Hello,

I'm using the Fongo app on an iPhone 4s and am having trouble connecting while at work. I suspect my work has some specific ports blocked that are required for Fongo. Just wondering if anyone has found any ways around this. I had 2 ideas:

1) Force Fongo to use Data even if connected to Wifi
- I don't see any option for this in the app or on my phone. I did some looking around for an app or cydia tweak to force this, but no such luck yet.

2) Forward any calls sequentially to my work number
- My work uses extensions, which don't seem possible to implement in Fongo or online in my Fongo settings. The app does have the option to use pauses, but won't accept that many digits.

Those were my 2 ideas for a solution, but currently neither are working for me. Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,

Nate

VOIP is pretty fragile to begin with, it only works in real time, which limits options. If your workplace wants to block VOIP, they will, without much difficulty.

As for what you want to do with a iphone, you are pretty much handcuffed on what Apple wants. Apple does not want app developers mucking into their software all that much, so you getting 3G and wifi at the same time is most likely never to happen from Apple, and since Apple has control over app, will not be in apps.

In the Android world, you could set up an open VPN session and let the app go through that, but again, since VOIP is time restrained, the result are not optimal.

Hmmmm, thanks for the info. Not the good news I was hoping for haha.

Is this something Fongo would be willing to look into? Adding the ability to use pause and increase the digits available for port forwarding? How would I go about requesting that?

If anyone else has any other ideas, I'm all ears. What about manually changing the VOIP port that is used? Is that a possibility?
