No ringing for incoming calls, straight to voicemail

Post by nauru »

Hi, just wondering if anyone here has had this issue?

No ringing for incoming calls, just straight to voicemail.

Thanks.

PAP2T, FFL has been working great for me with very few issues in the last 4 years.

Please try to change your PAP2T's SIP Port to a random number between 20000 and 65535. Save, and test.

If that does not work, try to change your PAP2T's Proxy from voip.freephoneline.ca to voip2.freephoneline.ca, or vice-versa. Save, and test.

Finally, check the User tab of your PAP2T. Be sure that none of the Call Forward or Selective Call Forward settings are set, and that DND Setting is set to No.

If one of those works, let us know which one. These four workarounds have four different causes. If none of my suggestions work, we can troubleshoot further.

This is the cause of the problem. Your ATA has been hacked. The hacker is attempting to use your service to route calls to Poland. You should remove 01148587310898, however, it is important to close the security hole so that the ATA is not hacked again.

Do you have any port forwarding to your ATA, or is it in DMZ? If so, please remove it - and also let us know which ports were forwarded.

Thank you, I deleted that entry and my service is working normally now.

Regarding security for my ATA:

I'm looking in the Port Forwarding tab on my Tomato router, but am not sure what to look for.

In the DMZ sub-tab, the 'Enable DMZ' checkbox is unchecked.

In the Basic sub-tab, I see the following:
Port Forwarding
On Proto Src Address Ext Ports Int Port Int Address Description
UDP 1000,2000 192.168.1.2 ex: 1000 and 2000
Both 1000-2000,3000 192.168.1.2 ex: 1000 to 2000, and 3000
Both 1.1.1.0/24 1000-2000 192.168.1.2 ex: 1000 to 2000, restricted
TCP 1000 2000 192.168.1.2 ex: different internal port

None of those lines has a checkbox beside them, but I'm not sure if there's someplace else I should be checking for port forwarding?

Thanks again.

Your post is interesting. You do not seem to be affected by the most common security problems.

You may also wish to check the sections Triggered and UPnP/NAT-PNP under Port Forwarding. From within the Triggered section, you should not see a checked box beside any rules (unless of course you've created some for some other specific purpose). UPnP/NAT-PMP should not list any forwarded ports (once again - unless you have configured it do so for a specific reason).

You may also wish to run a virus scan on your computer(s), as a matter of course.

It is also possible that my guess was wrong, you were not hacked, and someone activated call forwarding using your phone. To do this, a user would dial *72 01148587310898. Does that sound like something a member of your household may have done?

If none of these provide any answers, I am unsure how this happened. In any case, I'm glad your service is working again.

UPnP/NAT-PNP section showed two forwarded ports, and the Enable UPnP checkbox was checked. I deleted those entries and unchecked the box.

Triggered doesn't seem to have anything checked, just the example entry, unchecked.

I haven't run a virus scan in a while, probably a good idea.

Nobody in my household would be deliberately forwarding calls to a Polish number.

Thanks.
