Hi,
On February I have paid for porting my number from Bell. In a few days after my request, I got a message that my phone number is ported from Bell. Since then I'm using this number.
Recently I got a letter from Bell stating that I own them certain amount. I have contacted Bell and they told me that the number is still with Bell. I told them that the number was ported to another company in February and they told me they will cancel the number, will recalculate my account but I will loose my number because the number is still with Bell.
I want you to clarify this before I call Bell to make final account adjustment. I left everything with Bell as it is for now, but I need to call them in a few days to figure out with the amount I own them and cancel the number.
Thanks,
Porting question

Re: Porting question
Let me get this straight. You are now using your Bell phone number with another carrier? If so, it is not like Bell can easily take it back. After the porting date, Bell cannot bill you anymore, it is the law. If there was an outstanding balance, the porting date was the time for Bell to hold back the number, not now.
I do not know the legalities of this, but it seems Bell screwed up. If they are billing you after the port, they are clearly in the wrong. Of course, if you have had a previous contract with Bell, and you broke it, it gets more complicated.

Re: Porting question
Thank you for your comments,
I'm using my old Bell number with Freephoneline now (for the last 3 month) but Bell is claiming that the number is on their system. I ported the number because I moved to a new address and switched phone provider to Freephoneline. I have with Bell some other services for different location (internet and land line at my cottage) and have consolidated bill for all my services. Lately I noticed that Bell is still charging me for the number I ported to Freephoneline. Bell representative told me that they will gladly credit my account for the number I ported (that is not the problem for them, and the financial thing is not my question) but because the number (as they claim) is on Bell system they will disconnect the number and I will loose it. All what I'm trying to figure out is that claim is true. Will I loose the number even though I'm using it currently through Freephoneline or it is false claim just to keep me as Bell customer.
Thanks.

Re: Porting question
If your friends call your number, and your FPL phone rings, and you have never set up forwarding with Bell, your number is with FPL. In that case, bridonca is correct that Bell seems to have made a mistake.
If you want to be absolutely sure, enter your number at https://www.twilio.com/lookup . For numbers with FPL, the last line of the results should say "Fibernetics Corporation".

Re: Porting question
I wouldn't count on twilio completely because mine says "ICE Wireless" even though it is Fibernetics....

Re: Porting question
If your number supports SMS, which I believe Fongo numbers do, it will give you the name of the SMS provider. My FPL number shows Fibernetics.
