Hi all,
I've been testing FPL for a few months now and last month (perhaps more) I finally got a config file since I was able to get a local number in my area! YAY!
Anyways, my problem is with Caller ID. Whenever I call a BELL or Telus telephone the recipient always gets "UNKNOWN NUMBER/NAME" on their display.
So what I did was call Telus and report the issue. They opened a ticket for me and said they'd look in to it. Well the next day (unless I was dreaming) my FPL number was being displayed on my Telus cell phone... however a few days later it stopped all together again. So I called Telus the report this again.. well according to the last ticket I opened with them.. it says it went up to the TOP department who handles this type of "stuff" and they came back stating that they don't support VOIP calls. Well umm.. I was kinda shocked to hear this.. since my paid VOIP service I also have works perfectly with both Bell and Telus. My number (not name) gets displayed on the recipients call display.
Whenever I call (using my FPL number) any other VOIP service.. both my name (configured in my ATA) and my number get displayed properly.
So what gives? Are there any others with FPL numbers which won't be displayed on BELL and Telus phones? This is extremely frustrating and the only reason why I can't switch completely to this FPL service. (I also want to port over my other paid voip # to fpl eventually)
Also, about another matter.. why is it I have to manually re-register my fpl on my ATA so I can receive calls again? It seems after a few days that it just stops receiving calls and goes straight to voice mail. I've checked that it's re-registration as configured and it appears to be doing so. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Re: Bell & Telus CallerID
when i call a bell line they get unknown name and a 1613XXXXXXX
Register: NO
Make Call Without Reg: YES
Ans Call Without Reg: YES
in your line tab on the other ATA, if your running one.
which ever ATA/software registers last, gets the calls.
when your done using your fpl software just unplug you ATA and plug back in.. they'll be fighting (ATA, software) to get the calls
but it should re-register every 180 seconds
Register Expires: 180
usually when that happens, something else is registering.. another ATA or FPL software?¿? if your running another ATA, setjgionet76 wrote:Also, about another matter.. why is it I have to manually re-register my fpl on my ATA so I can receive calls again? Re: Bell & Telus CallerID
Likely the CID is being carried through because it is the most basic of services that all PSTN carriers have, CNAM on the other hand (Where it is showing "Unknown") is not being passed since frankly, they (being the carrier) can deny CNAM to anyone they want.

So what are my options since both the number and name aren't being displayed ?admin wrote:Likely the CID is being carried through because it is the most basic of services that all PSTN carriers have, CNAM on the other hand (Where it is showing "Unknown") is not being passed since frankly, they (being the carrier) can deny CNAM to anyone they want.
Can you guys test my number over there? I'd REALLY like this to work properly.

I don't have another ATA or software configured to use this service. So I don't know.... I'll have to do some more digging... Unless my other paid voip service with another number is interfering .. Which I don't think it is.

Re: Bell & Telus CallerID
Kris? Steve? am I out of luck here? I paid for my config file and everything.. yet I'm still plagued by this issue!
what can I do to get my callerID displayed on both the Bell and Telus network? They both don't see a problem.. and 1 even states they don't support VoIP.
I'm sure all your other clients aren't all suffering from this same restriction.

I know my ATA is sending it as if I call my paid VOIP number I see both my name and number displayed.
are there any other types of tests you can perform at your end to confirm this? any other solutions/options?
many thxs!

Re: Bell & Telus CallerID
Unfortunately that's where a lot of our testing ends. We can guarantee it's being sent out. But what happens after it leaves our switch we become powerless on.jgionet76 wrote:I know my ATA is sending it as if I call my paid VOIP number I see both my name and number displayed.
It is region specific though - because Kris has a Bell phone and I can call it from my FPL without issue.
The problem is either with the carrier receiving the CID (maybe don't tell them you're using VOIP) - this area we have no influence in, only that carriers customers can influence
Or, with a downstream carrier - but that would generally plague a lot more than just a few cities/regions as we only use a few carriers in Ontario to my knowledge

I'll try bugging them some more and see what's going.. and "forget" to mention it's a VOIP service
