I just created a new FreePhoneLine account with a local Halifax number. Using the desktop app I can make calls without any problems.
However when I try to call the new FPL number from my landline, I get a message that it's a long distance call. I'm located in central Halifax and I've had the landline number for many years.
Do I need to wait a while for the FPL number to be properly set up? Or is there something else I need to do, or is this a problem on FPL's end?

That message will be from the phone company you are calling with. It could be the exchanges that the numbers are listed on are not in the same group.
What are the first 6 number of the number you were given, and the one you are calling from?

Re: Problems with new local Halifax number
Fongo's Halifax (902) 932-xxxx exchange is relatively new. so it is likely that Eastlink, which owns the (902) 407-xxxx exchange, have not updated their database to reflect this. I had the same problem with MagicJack, called MagicJack's Technical support, and eventually, the (902) 932-xxxx exchange was supported. It is probably best you call Eastlink, and get them to do the same.

Thanks for the quick reply.
And the landline number originally was an Eastlink number, but I switched to Bell Aliant a few years ago. So I'm going to need to call Bell Aliant to get them to support them exchange, correct?

Re: Problems with new local Halifax number
According to the exchange details it should be a local call http://www.localcallingguide.com/lprefi ... xch=129080
So yes, I would call your phone company and tell them you are being charged for a local call.
