Buy VoIP unlock key before or after porting number?

I'm thinking of porting a number and getting the VoIP unlock key. Question is: can I buy the unlock key before I port and be able to use the ported number on an ATA device?

There should be no rush when it comes to porting your number. Buy your SIP settings, play around with them until you are happy with the service, and then, when satisfied, do the port.

I've been using freephoneline for a while so I know the quality is good and set up is relatively simple with the ATA device. I just have another number that I'd like to finish the credits up before I move it to FPL. The username for the VoIP unlock credentials is the number itself, so after porting..... would that change?

yes, it changes to whatever the current phone number is associated with the account (including the initial 1)

Remember, when you port in a number you will loose the existing number you have on that account. There can only be one number associated with each account at one time.
