can my number be ported on a specific date?

I read that the typical porting time is 10 - 14 days. but the article is dated 2013. how is it now? we want our service with freephoneline to start on SEptember 5. is there a way that we can ensure that on sept 5, anyone who calls my number will get connected to us through freephoneline.

There is no way to get a port done on a specific date, because both the porting party, and the party that is being ported from, have to be on the same page, which is not likely. At one time it got so bad, that now by law, the party holding the number has to release the phone number within 2 business days, or 10 business days, if the party has a good reason for holding the number that long. And that is assuming the party doing the port is on the ball, and does not have their own delays.

If there is any good news, it is that you will usually be without phone service less than an hour, usually much less than that. The port itself down not take long, when everyone has their ducks in a row.
