SIP URI with Freephoneline!

Post by stephanevoip »

Hi,

1- Can you do SIP URI Dialling with a Freephoneline account?
2- Can you call foward your Freephoneline calls to a SIP URI address?
3- Call you use Follow Me with your Freephoneline calls to send them to a SIP URI address?

If yes to any questions, how do you do that?

Regards,
Stephane

Inbound SIP URI calls to FPL numbers do not work.

I've never tried.
2- Can you call foward your Freephoneline calls to a SIP URI address?
You can with an Obihai ATA or Obihai IP phone. Most hardware and software clients can’t. Getting it to work is dependent upon the hardware (ATA or IP Phone) or software client that you're using.
Refer to your manual or contact the developer of the product you're using for further assistance.

3- Call you use Follow Me with your Freephoneline calls to send them to a SIP URI address?
Outbound SIP URI calls are not supported via Follow Me--or if they are, I don't know the proper syntax, and Fongo/Freephoneline hasn't published it.

If I understand you right, we can't use FFL Call Forwarding feature to forward calls to a SIP URI (instead of a PSTN phone number) with the web interface on freephoneline.ca.

The Follow Me feature with FPL does not support SIP URI as far as I can tell. I am unable to enter anything other than regular phone numbers.

Thank you for the info. Do you know if FFL supports ENUM numbers?

Do you mean iNUM?

FPL does not provide iNUMs.

You can reach iNUMs by dialing local access numbers first:

eNum
https://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/ENUM

ENUM (E.164 Number to URI Mapping) translates telephone numbers into Internet addresses. You can dial a telephone number and reach a SIP, H.323 or any other Internet Telephony user. This all happens in the background; you do need to do anything special while calling someone.

They are the same?

Without a software or hardware client mapping to third parties needs to be implemented by the SIP server/network. Again, I've never tried, but I doubt FPL supports it independently.
Outbound SIP URI calls using FPL are possible though, but getting it to work is dependent upon the hardware or software client being used.

And with my grandstream ht702, I doubt that I can do that! I'm sure I can call an IP address but not more! Dialling 5141234567@sip.whatever.org, I don't believe we have that option there! Maybe on HT 802! They look nice, not expensive, are they better, do they do much more? It's another story! By curiosity, did you try any or hear good reviews on thoses? Ideally it to have a box like that that also offer an app (ios, android) but I don't know if that exists!

I don't usually advise people that already have ATAs to buy new ones.

If you absolutely want a new one, in terms of call routing features, nothing touches Obihai ATAs and IP phones at the consumer level. Obihai makes the most powerful ATAs for home use. However, their customer support is, in my view, horrendous. If you're interested, visit https://forums.redflagdeals.com/newegg- ... x-2145415/ and read the first two pages of that thread.

If you want to read about everything you could do with FPL but can't because you're not using an Obihai ATA, read this PDF guide: http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 805#p73839.
I can't emphasize enough that I dislike Obihai customer support though.
