Rogers Rocket Hub

Post by ref »

I have been using freephoneline on a laptop for sometime. It has worked well when I'm hooked up to a hard-wired highspeed connection. Yesterday I purchased Roger's rocket hub which you plug into an electrical outlet and then it allows you to connect to the internet wirelessly. Unfortunately freephoneline doesn't seem to work. I do a Test Connection and Results shows call service is OK. Sound data transfer shows NONE, as well as Possible reasons NONE. It allows me to dial but then I can't hear anything, nor can I leave a message.

Any ideas on what is wrong?

Is the RocketHub 3G?
VOIP in general is incredibly finicky with those 3G portable internet solutions - it's a problem with how restricted the 3G internet networks are and unfortunately nothing we VOIP providers can fix from our end.

I used to connect using my Telus supplied Palm Treo 700p, but I used custom programs that gave me relatively full control over my network settings, and without being detected by Telus.

But under normal circumstances, these services are highly restricted on wireless networks. They don't want to take money away from themselves.

The other issue you'll run into on wireless networks is based on your distance from tower, as you'll see latency and jitter issues. The problem is not the bandwidth, but rather the network itself.
