Lond Distance reciever charges

Post by stdly »

I just signed up.
This morning I called my brother and he would not answer so I called him back on my home phone and asked why he did not answer he said because he got a long distance ring tone and saw a 1-289-***-**** and thought he would be charged for a long distance call.
We are in the same area code 905 (GTA) so my question is will he be charge long distance fees if he answers the call.
Thanks
Steve

May I ask what area this is?

If they truly are in the same area, this shouldn't be happening.

Thanks for the quick reply WOW that was fast!!! :D
I am in Brampton and he is in Mississauga they are both in the 905 and 416 area codes. My cell is 416 local and my home phone is 905 his cell is 647 witch is local for a cell phone. Maybe it didn't ring long distance but he just saw the 1-289 I will ask him.
Also I was putting in some contacts yesterday and the first one was a 905-xxx-xxxx that is local he is in Brampton like me and I had to add a 1 in front of the # no big deal I got the answering machine on his end but will he be charge long distance as well?
Most people see a 1 in front of a number and expect to pay long distance.
Thanks

Usually (and I say usually because Rogers mobile customer are charged incoming LD) land line carriers along with most cell phone carriers do not charge for long distance calls which are incoming.

He should ask his carrier if he'll be charge for these calls. In the mid-term could you send me both numbers (PM) so I can check the rate centers of each?

He likely won't get charged, but it doesn't hurt for him to check.
Here at home we don't have a long distance plan on our Bell line, so we do get a weird ring when long distance calls come in, but we are not charged anything extra for this.

The wierd ring is because you have call waiting included with your plan. I called bell up ages ago and asked them why i had a different ring for long distance calls and they said that it's not the caller ID that gives the different ring, it's the data being pushed through the call waiting option.

I had both call waiting and caller id (their package) and i removed the call waiting and kept the callerID and my distinct ringing disappeared on long distance calls.

Thanks for your replies.
Much appreciated.
I did wonder about the special ring it is kind of handy actually.
I have also called my Rogers cell and will check this out myself.
