Can't hear on the soft phone either side
I have installed the software phone. While I can hear the ring when a phone dialing in and then accept the call, I can't hear the other party at all; when I use the soft phone to dial out, the receiver can't hear me either.
I tested connection, and it says: "Sound data transfer: Unable to send/receive sound data; Possible reason: None" ,though the Results above that says: Call service is OK. Why? There is no audio setting allowed in the software.
I use windows XP, and the mic or speaker isn't muted. I can use skype to talk and hear without any problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it already, but still doesn't work out.
Thank you!

Do you have the appropriate ports forwarded in your router, windows firewall and any other firewall software?
If so, then what modem and ISP do you have?

Re: Can't hear on the soft phone either side
Thanks. I don't use any router. I use the Bell's 4-port modem "2Wire Gateway", as it's printed on the modem. Any problem? How to fix that? I have tried to plug the line to each of the four ports, but it still doesn't work.mindabsence wrote:Do you have the appropriate ports forwarded in your router, windows firewall and any other firewall software?

I don't use any particular firewall software except the Windows, and set the Freephoneline software as an exception.
Any idea? Thanks.

You'll need to call Bell and find out how to forward ports in that modem gateway, because that's probably what's causing your problem.
Forward UDP ports 13000 and 13001. Also make sure that your windows firewall exception is set specifically for UDP ports 13000 and 13001 (I'm unsure how well it works using just a program exception)

Thanks, Steve. I don't know how to ask Bell for that. What is to be forwarded to the port? I used another brand ADSL modem, but still didn't work.mindabsence wrote:You'll need to call Bell and find out how to forward ports in that modem gateway, because that's probably what's causing your problem.

I even tried to close all the firewalls, but no use.
Thanks.

You'll need to forward those ports to your computer. What other modem did you try?invincible wrote:Thanks, Steve. I don't know how to ask Bell for that. What is to be forwarded to the port? The Bell 2Wire Gateway is indeed a router. It has a built in firewall etc...
You need to call 2Wire and get the technicians there to either forward these ports remotely or guide you through doing it yourself.
Port forwarding is basically pointing a certain port or a number of ports to a specific device or application.

Re: Can't hear on the soft phone either side
Thanks your answers, but regret I was guided in a wrong direction. I have figured things out now and it has nothing to do with any hardware. I use a Chinese version of Windows that makes the software not work very well. It is the software problem. When I try an English version of either Vista and XP on the same computer, it works.
Hope you software can work in other languages in the future. Thanks.

Thanks for the info on that - to be honest I don't think any of us would have thought about something like that. I'll send an email off to the programmers and see if they know of what might cause thisinvincible wrote:Thanks your answers, but regret I was guided in a wrong direction. Thanks. Yes, it's not easy to figure a problem. I tried all means. I could use other English softphones on my compute in Chinese Windows XP well, but not your softphone, weird. Hope you can make it compatible with other XPs. Did you hear any problem under other language environment? Hope you can fix this bug so that I can use your service on my computer later.
Thanks again for your very kindness, Steve!
