Fongo home phone to FPL

Post by music5_5 »

Hey all,

I have been using Fongo Home phone for a few years now. Just like everyone else, I hardly use this number anymore so I was thinking to convert it over to FPL.

1. Can I use the current hardware with the FPL setup?
2. Is it truly one time setup cost?
3. Can I still use to call overseas numbers?
4. What will happen to my current account and credits?
5. Does Fongo/FPL support some sort of call filters like a menu where a caller has to push number 5 to speak with me?

Thank you!

1. Can I use the current hardware with the FPL setup?
You can. You'd have to submit a ticket to request that Fongo remove your Grandstream ATA from Fongo's provisioning server, and that request should probably be made at the same time you port into Freephoneline.

To submit a ticket, visit https://support.fongo.com/hc/requests/new (choose Fongo Home Phone)

Locate the MAC address of the device. It is the 12 hexadecimal digit number on the bottom of the unit.
Provide the MAC address in the ticket.

Visit https://status.fongo.com/.
If "Support System" indicates "Partial Outage" or "Degraded Performance", ticket response time can take up to a week (or longer).

You can check your ticket status by logging in at
https://support.fongo.com/hc/requests. That's an account for tickets
(zendesk) only and is completely separate from your Fongo Home Phone account or
any other Fongo account you may have. If you don't have a zendesk account yet, click "Sign Up" after visiting the link.
Use the same email address that you use to submit tickets. Do not use the same password as your Fongo Home Phone
account. Again, these two accounts are unrelated.

Support staff does not respond to tickets on weekends or Canadian holidays.
Support hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. EST.

Fongo does have https://twitter.com/Fongo_Support. I'm not sure if anyone
there responds to direct messages.

Similarly, they appear to be on Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/FongoMobile/. I don't know whether they'll respond to you there.

By the way, Freephoneline account tickets are typically answered last, as far as I know. There's no technical support for Freephoneline either.

You would need to configure the ATA yourself afterwards. Visit viewforum.php?f=15 for guides.
Afterwards, visit viewtopic.php?t=20539 for troubleshooting guidance with your Grandstream ATA, and especially pay attention to point A through D from viewtopic.php?p=78976#p78976.

2. Is it truly one time setup cost?
There's a $1.95+tax per month 911 access fee in addition to the price of the VoIP unlock key.

Visit https://www.fongo.com/freephoneline-911 ... rvice-fee/

The current VoIP unlock key price is $99.95+tax.

The cost to port your number into Freephoneline is $25+tax. Visit https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/art ... ne-Port-in, and read that document fully.
Please do not send me emails; I do not work for nor represent Freephoneline or Fongo. Post questions on the forums so that others may learn from responses or assist you. Thank you. If you have an issue with your account or have a billing issue, submit a ticket here: https://support.fongo.com/hc/requests/new. Visit http://status.fongo.com/ to check FPL/Fongo service status. Freephoneline setup guides can be found at http://forum.fongo.com/viewforum.php?f=15.

(Continued)
3. Can I still use to call overseas numbers?
U.S. calling is not free with Freephoneline, unlike Fongo Home Phone.

Additionally, the long distance rates are more expensive with Freephoneline.
Visit https://account.fongo.com/calling/long-distance/ to check rates.

4. What will happen to my current account and credits?
You'll lose them when porting has been completed.
Also visit https://support.fongo.com/hc/articles/2 ... r-Port-out, and read that document fully.

You should keep in mind that there is no technical support offered with Freephoneline. These are user-to-user support forums. Fongo support staff is not obligated to respond or read posts here. Volunteer moderators don't work for Fongo and don't have access to your account.

5. Does Fongo/FPL support some sort of call filters like a menu where a caller has to push number 5 to speak with me?
No. https://support.fongo.com/hc/articles/2 ... ne-numbers

It’s possible to make incoming callers press “1” to get through with Obihai ATA’s (and likely a Poly 4xx series ATA series, which replaces Obihai ATAs) Auto Attendant feature, but Grandstream ATAs are not as powerful. You can also create whitelists and blacklists with an Obihai ATA or Poly 4xx series ATA.

Lastly, another difference is that Fongo Home Phone has 4 channels, while Freephoneline has 2. The number of channels represents the number of calls that can be active simultaneously.
