Fongo World Edition - Questions

Post by worldTraveler »

Hi

I am currently in Canada and I will relocate to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) soon. I would appreciate your replies to the following questions.

1- I checked play store but I am not able to find "Fongo World Edition" . Is this app still available?

2- I would like to use the Fongo app World Edition while in UAE to have a Canadian number to make calls/sms, receive calls/sms/voicemail. Will I be able to do these from the World Edition app without a VPN while I am in UAE?

3- At some point in the future, I would like to transfer my existing Canadian number to Fongo World Edition to be able to use it in UAE. Will that be possible?

4 - How can I contact the support team while in UAE?

Thank you for your time and consideration

Hello,

Yes, but not from Canadian app stores

In Canada, Fongo Mobile is available instead.
2- I would like to use the Fongo app World Edition while in UAE to have a Canadian number to make calls/sms, receive calls/sms/voicemail. Will I be able to do these from the World Edition app without a VPN while I am in UAE?
Refer to #4 from https://support.fongo.com/hc/articles/2 ... ion-Failed

a) "We have found that some Internet Service Providers and Mobile Carriers in certain parts of the world such as the Middle East, Northern Africa, and Central Europe are blocking SIP/VoIP communications and as a result, Fongo will not connect. You may be able to avoid this entirely by enabling Fongo Alternate Connection in the app's settings, or using a VPN service such as TunnelBear (free) or NordVPN."

b) Also, Fongo's servers are located in Ontario. To understand why that matters, visit viewtopic.php?p=82197#p82197. What I wish to emphasize is this: anyone using any communication service (or even when playing online games or using other online services) should understand that the longer the path to the server being used, the greater the potential exists for a problem to occur somewhere along that path.

c) Keep in mind that there is no guarantee short code SMS verification codes will be received: visit https://support.fongo.com/hc/articles/2 ... hort-codes.

"What's an SMS Short Code?

Activation, authentication, or marketing texts from services such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Banks, Social Media platforms, etc. may come from a five or six digit phone number, which is considered a short-code or Premium Rate SMS. These types of messages can also come from regular 10-digit phone numbers.

Many companies use a combination of both types of numbers to contact you.

Not All Short-Codes Are Supported

We cannot guarantee that you are able to receive all short-code SMS, as this is currently beyond our control. Some services actively block VOIP services like Fongo from receiving these messages."

and

"Do I Need an Add-on to Receive These Types of Texts?

Yes, with a Fongo Plus or Texting add-on (or when you transfer in your existing phone number), you can receive verification texts.

If the Fongo account does not meet the above criteria and a short-code message is sent to them, they will receive this message:

"Your Fongo number has received a verification code message from: [NUMBER] - To receive verification code messages, please subscribe to an Unlimited Texting package or Fongo Plus, available for purchase in the add-ons section of this app."

3- At some point in the future, I would like to transfer my existing Canadian number to Fongo World Edition to be able to use it in UAE. Will that be possible?
No. https://support.fongo.com/hc/articles/1 ... ion-number

You can transfer Canadian numbers to Fongo Mobile for $25+tax: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... le-Port-in

You can use the Fongo Mobile app outside of Canada, with the understanding of the potential limitations and concerns raised in my response to question #2. So you could use Fongo Mobile right now, port into Fongo Mobile, and take the app with you.

Fongo Mobile and Fongo World Edition apps and accounts are independent of one another.
4 - How can I contact the support team while in UAE?

If "Support System" indicates "Degraded Performance" or "Partial Outage", ticket response time can take up to a week (or longer).

You can check your ticket status by logging in at

Fongo does have https://twitter.com/Fongo_Support. I'm not sure if anyone
there responds to direct messages.
Similarly, they appear to be on Facebook:

Please do not send me emails; I do not work for nor represent Freephoneline or Fongo. Post questions on the forums so that others may learn from responses or assist you. Thank you.
