[Resolved] Unable to access voicemail box

Post by scrooge »

Instructions direct you to:

"Dial *98
Follow the operator prompts to listen to your voicemail messages."

Whenever I dial *98, it just repeats my phone number to me.

In my account, its already set to "Voicemail & Texts to Email: Copy" so I am getting a copy of this in my email, and I can download and listen to this from my online account. I am just unable to access voicemail in any capacity through the phone (cannot listen, cannot play, etc).

Any help would be appreciated.

1) What happens when you dial your Fongo Home Phone number--and not *98?

2) What brand and model phone are you using? Does your phone's manual indicate dialing * or *98 announces anything or triggers some feature, such as an answering machine feature built into the phone base or caller ID playback?

3) Dial *98. Then check to see if dialing *98 is actually reaching Fongo's voicemail system by checking your online call logs: login at https://account.fongo.com/admin/reports/call-logs/. Select "current month", and click submit. Check the time of the most recent call to ensure you see that it corresponds with you dialing *98. "To" should state "UMLISTEN" if Fongo's voicemail system was reached. Be very careful that the "connect time" corresponds with when you dialed *98.

Possibly you aren't reaching Fongo's voicemail system when dialing *98. My thought was dialing * may be triggering something locally on your phone base, for example, which is why the answer to question 2 may be important.

4. Try calling 4164770355. When the call is answered, press 1 for English or 2 for French. When prompted to enter your account number, enter 1 followed by your Fongo Home Phone number. Then press #. Then enter your enter your voicemail password (as defined at "Voicemail & Texts Settings" from within your online Fongo Home Phone account portal). Then press #.

Refer to numbers listed under the "Remotely" section at https://support.fongo.com/hc/articles/2 ... Home-Phone. You can try dialing any of those numbers from the phone attached to your Grandstream ATA.

You're a genius: I dialed my number and it worked. So nothing else is required.
I configured my VM to dial my own number by default now.
Thanks.

You’re welcome!

Okay, possibly you aren't reaching Fongo's voicemail system when dialing *98. My thought was dialing * or *98 may be triggering something locally on your phone base (or phone system), such as an answering machine feature built into the phone base or caller ID playback, for example, which is why the answer to question 2 may be relevant (in the event you want to fiddle). Refer to your phone's manual to check.

Anyway, as long as the VM button now works as expected, that's good. You're definitely reaching Fongo Home Phone's voicemail system now.

I hope you have a great weekend!
