I don’t know if this is a serious question, but in low Earth orbit, SIP-based voice services can work if the spacecraft has an approved IP path through mission networks. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have used VoIP systems on flight-approved laptops, and NASA has used VoIP systems for station communications. In practice, a service from Fongo would only see whatever Earth-side gateway or relay those networks exposed.

Once you go beyond low Earth orbit, latency becomes a serious issue. If you head towards Mars (I'm just using this example because it's popular), the speed-of-light delay makes real-time voice calls impractical.

Even on Earth, latency can become a serious issue. Fongo’s servers are based in southern Ontario. Ping is a measurement of round-trip packet delay, and ping does affect delay or lag. All gamers know, almost inherently, that lag affects them negatively. A PC gamer will pound his or her keyboard in hopes that a character will respond on the monitor quickly, but when there’s a delay or lag, reality doesn’t meet expectation. A gamer can see this problem visually. Anything over 200–210 ms can make conversations feel awkward due to increased delay (can also result in people talking over each other), even if the untrained ear doesn’t notice. All VoIP services are subject to the same scientific principles, including the fact that speed of transmission affects delay. When ping, and especially jitter, are high, VoIP can be a pretty horrible experience. Anyone using any communication service, or even playing online games or using other online services, should understand that the longer the path to the server, the greater the potential for a problem somewhere along that path.
