Noob dryloop question

Post by pucksandbeer »

I have been using the budphone and liking it. I want to use my home phones now and I know that I need the config file and ata adapter. I have been reading about people needing dryloops and paying monthly for them. I am currently with Cogeco home phone so if I ported my home phone number to fpl would I need a dryloop or do I already have it? Sorry if this is a silly question but thanks in advance.

Who is your current internet provider and will you be transferring your internet to us?

If your internet is supplied through Cable, then you only need that.

If your internet is suppled through DSL over phone lines, regardless of who sells the phoneline and who sells the DSL internet on it, you need a dry loop connection. Dry loop refers to the phone line cabling being connected to equipment in the central office, but without the actual regular phone line service on it.

Since Cogeco internet is cable, you can port the number to us and it shouldn't affect your service.

Why not consider our DSL if you're thinking of making the switch? It's DSL, up to 7mbps download, no bandwidth cap, and there's a great promo right now with prices starting lower than most other Canadian ISPs right now! I'd love to get you more info if you're interested, or put a sales agent in touch to answer any questions.

Thanks for all the responses! Steve, as for the DSL, I currently have a really good bundled rate with my tv but when it runs out I will be looking at you guys.

Cogeco and Good Bundle Rate can't be in the same sentence.

I too have cogeco for tv and internet, in a "bundle" but it's far from a good rate..

I need to drop a new entrance wire into my house (through concrete somehow into my basement) because my lines fried in march with one of those big storms... and stupid bell wont fix it cause "it's not a straight drill, they would have to drill blind" which is one of the reasons why I left bell 6 months before my contract ended, and why they also didn't charge me the early cancellation fee of 150.

Once I drop a new entrance wire, I may give a DSL provider a try, however I know my cogeco connection is super stable and super fast so it's hard to find one that will compare.

pucksandbeer,

Bundles are just a way of keeping you with them making you think you have great prices.

I've looked at almost every possible way to get the lowest overall prices and it turns out when you have services (TV, phone and internet) with 3 different providers you'll save even more.

Try looking at what Shaw Direct offers for TV and you'll be surprised. Cogeco have higher prices than all other TV providers for less channels. I'm not a Shaw customer as I watch tv over the internet but I got people to subscribe to them and are ver happy. If ever their prices is not good enough I can get you a contact in their central office that will make them even better.

Best bet is DSL and phone with FPL and TV with Shaw. Check it out.

As already said, dry-loop fees and hassles does not apply to you because you are using cable for your Internet connection. I would be in no hurry to get rid of the old phone service. Get the Freephoneline SIP setting and an ATA, use the service for a month so, and when you are happy, then port your Cogeco number and ditch the Cogeco phone service. They may be kinks that need ironing out.
