Port 13000 error

Post by mlven78 »

When I try to test the connection within the program itself (freephoneline) is telling me that it is unable to send sound data and that port 13000 should be available. I definetly have opened all these ports but am still getting this error.

Where am I going wrong? Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks

Have you also made that port available in windows firewall and any antivirus/anti-spyware programs? Sounds like something on the computers end is blocking it if you say you've already forwarded it in your router.

I have tried completely disabling windows firewall. The only other program I have running that could have been getting in the way is avast. I have tried disabling that too. Still same error running directly from my modem which contains no firewall directly to the computer and all software firewalls turned off. I have checked with my ISP and they block no ports.

Not all modems are without firewalls. Sometimes modems are routing modems like the 2Wire commonly used by Bell. I myself have played with this kind and found a way to open ports on it. Could you tell us what ISP you are with and what modem you use?

Modem is one thing, do you have a router? They are the culprit.

SpeedStream 5360 users we happened to have some of these SpeedStream modems laying around the office. I decided to configure a connection for one and give it a test myself. It turns out this modem is somehow blocking port 13000/6060 traffic.
No router was used. No firewall was used. AV software was disabled. Running Win Vista Home Premium.
Nothing I could try would get this modem working with our softphone client!
I'm about to run some tests later today to see if I can make it work with an ATA or not because they function on different ports (5060/5061).

UPDATE This modem worked with the ATA I tried in the office on Port 6060, so the problem only seems to be related to port 13000 (which the softphone uses). When I switched the ATA over to the same port as the softphone, the problem occurred again.

Seeing what we can do right now - will keep everyone posted.

I am glad at least there is a possible reason now seen for this issue! What do you think the chances of a fix are?

I might know some ideas in 20-or-so hours. Our software development team that programs the FPL softphone application is based out of Bulgaria so emailing them doesn't come without a time difference :) I've made them aware of the issue, so we'll see what they say in the morning.

Good news! The software development team has agreed to add a feature into the softphone allowing users to manually change the port it operates on. They are beginning coding for this feature today. I didn't get an update on when they will release the new version, but I will certainly keep everyone informed as soon as I know.
update We're looking at about a 2 week period before this feature will be available to the public. The reason why is because there are a couple minor updates and a few other new features that are nearly done coding. When everything is finished then a new version of the softphone will come out. It wouldn't be beneficial for time/money allocation to release a new version for every single change that's made. Again, I'll keep everyone in the loop when it's out

New version is out today!
For those affected by the port 13000 error, please download this version and try changing the 'audio port' setting. I suggest something lower than 13000. For example, our ATAs operate on port 5060 and work fine with that SpeedStream modem. If you don't have an ATA, you could always change the softphone to operate on this port.
Please let us know if this resolves your issues or not.

I meant to follow-up with your PM yesterday but ended up having a rush of work before leaving the office.
So you're saying that you converse with people on the softphone just fine, and it seems to work fine, except the connection test is giving you that error?
If it's working good, I'd just say it's some weird glitch. Usually the only time people get that error is when there's a problem where one party can't hear the other but you're saying that seems fine for you?

Trust me the application is acting weird. Its not consistent. Once it works it works fine without any changes.
You have my phone number. Please check your logs if you find anything. I am sure there is problem when I call from soft-phone to Bell Land-line. Its intermittent but it exists. When Bell to FPL the voice is OK every-time from both sides.

No need to apologies. I am pleased with FPL efforts.

My one attempt to use the updated version seemed to work. The test connection screen is not working. I left it for a while and it never completes the sound data portion of it. I will try the software it a few times over the weekend and see if it consistently works because previously success was intermittent.

Fingers crossed!

Let me know how that goes!
It's a brand new feature, so it's possible that changing the port might work but the test connection might have a bug with changed ports. I'll play around with it more next week myself and see what I can turn up.

Yes. I had different problems with new version. Even uninstall didn't work.
Somehow I could uninstall new and old versions. Reboot windows and reinstall new one again.

Well no luck for me. I have tried several ports. 7000, 5060, 5061, 5066, with no luck. I can dial out but do not hear anything. I am open to suggestions.

I have:

A speestreem modem.
windows XP
I have unlocked the above mentioned ports in my firewall.
