I doubt it will happen anytime soon. There are just too many obstacles. Your best bet it to buy the sip settings and use an already approved sip app like siphon on your iphone.

An app for Iphone would be great , the sip phone apps are not the same as an app that would work with the iphone keypad

Get fring for iPhone, go to SIP->Other and enter your SIP settings:
1. username (your phone number) 1647XXXXXX
2. voip.freephoneline.ca
3. your SIP Password
Enjoy

How can you find the SIP password without buying the config file? The app should really be considered, since the new iPod Touch 4G came out with a built-in mic.

You can't. When you buy the config file a new password is set up, it is not the same as your free one. I believe that other changes are made to your account that allow to you connect with a BYO device.PatSegoe wrote:How can you find the SIP password without buying the config file? The $50 is worth it, even if you are just playing.

Also, let's not forget that Apple will never allow this to happen

I have my config details, and copy upper and lower case, and I have the 1 before the phone number, but it will never register with Fring.sellwithjulia wrote:Get fring for iPhone, go to SIP->Other and enter your SIP settings:

Any suggestions? Perhaps I'll put the IP in just to be safe next time.

Fring doesn't support DTMF, so you won't be able to call anywhere that has an automated answer, or get your voicemails at all.
I recommend Siphon (for jailbroken phones).
There's also Nimbuzz you can try, but it also suffers from the same DTMF limitations as Fring.
Btw i don't remember the fring config, but I know it works because I used it once (before realizing DTMF wasn't working). If there's a proxy box, enter voip.freephoneline.ca there too.

Re: Free Phone Line For IPhone/Ipod Touch 2G/3G
They would allow it, there are plenty of VOIP apps in the App Store already, including some with free calling (although more limited in scope than FPL). They work on wifi and 3G.curriegrad2004 wrote:Also, let's not forget that Apple will never allow this to happen
If you have the SIP settings for FPL you can use a SIP softphone on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch easily. I use Acrobits Softphone myself, although my FPL line is setup via pbxes.org so that I can have it ring multiple extensions, which is my ATA at home and the softphone on my iPhone.
This works great as it allows me to have a minimum calling plan with the mobile provider, I have a 6GB data plan so that means talking via VOIP is basically unlimited. Very handy when out and about or on road trips out of town.
Fring also works however the audio quality with that app is not as good as a true SIP softphone app. The true softphone apps also support DTMF, etc. and emulate the look and feel of the native iPhone dialer, including using the built in contact list, etc.
