Unable to connect to server- WRT54G

Post by chux2k »

Hi,

Sorry I'm a newb at Freephonline.ca.
I just installed Freephoneline onto my PC- using Windows 7.
I'm getting an "unable to connect to server" message.
I've never been able to connect.
Some of the other threads said there's a thread about changing the port settings on my router but I couldn't find it on the FAQ's.
My router is a Linksys WRT54G.
Please help!

Hey chux, your best bet for a detailed walkthrough is on www.portforward.com
They have walk throughs for almost every router out there.

At anyrate, Linksys are pretty straight forward ;)

First you have to connect to the web infterface, let's find out the router IP.

Click on the Start Button
type "cmd" (Yay windows 7)
Press Enter
In the Command Prompt (black screen) type:
ipconfig
Press Enter

You will receive an output similar to the following, find the "Default Gateway" parameter and copy down that number.
Also make sure to copy down your computer's IPv4 Address (sometimes just IP, but you're in Win7 as well, so good chance you'll see what I see.)

Code: Select all

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : no-domain-set.bellcanada
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::c5d4:f3b:56ca:48eb%17
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.121
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Ethernet adapter oVPN:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Tunnel adapter isatap.no-domain-set.bellcanada:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : no-domain-set.bellcanada
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::5efe:192.168.1.121%12
-----truncated output for forum purposes--------
Now that we know your Default Gateway (router IP) GREAT! Open your favourite web browser (IE/Firefox/Chrome, what ever.)

In the address bar (not the search bar) type in or copy+paste that router address. (Very likely it will be 192.168.1.1 just as mine is here at the office.)

You will be asked for a username and password. assuming defaults are still in place and you are still on the original Linksys firmware,
it will be one of the following three in order of most to least likely
Username: admin
Password: admin

Username: admin
Password:

Username:
Password: admin

You're in? SUPER!

You will see a number of tabs across the top, you will want to access the "Applications and Gaming" or sometimes just Applications tab.
(This is for firewall rules/port forwarding.)

You'll want to place in the Port range files 13000 to 13001, and your computer's IP address in the following field.
