We are starting a home based business.
I think I would like to keep my home phone unchanged. Would it work to use this service to have a new number assigned to the desktop (the business number) and not ever hear it ring, but have it automatically answer the call and take a message that we return later?

Re: using desktop as an answering machine
I am sure there are many people who do just that.
Once you set up the account, just don't have anything registered and the calls will go to voicemail. With FPL you can get the voicemails emailed to you. I'm not sure if Fongo offer this now, I know they didn't in the past. (**see edit)
**Edit - I just checked and Fongo also offer the copy/forward to email option now. This can be handy as you won't have to check your messages, you will get them sent to an email address. If you do want to check your voicemails withough starting up the app, then you can always dial one of these access numbers http://support.fongo.com/entries/228819 ... l-remotely
