no outgoing audio.

Post by digishop »

Hi!
Ok I signed up with the freephoneline service, I downloaded the program.. I managed to call someone, and I hear them, but they don't hear me.
I went to the FAQ to figure out how to fix this, but honestly, I have NO idea what this means:
When I call somebody, only one party can hear (one way audio)
Please make sure UDP ports 13000, 13001, 5060, 5061, 6060 and 6061 are opened in your firewall and internet security suite. If you have a router, you will also need to forward these ports to the computer with the softphone on.
Can someone explain to me in very simple terms how to fix this?
I have a wireless router, I am on Windows Vista.

How do I forward the ports? What does that mean?

Sadly, I do not know how helpful we can be with your level of expertise. You have to log into your router and forward certain ports from your router to your ATA device. You have to make sure the ATA is setup to accept those ports. Here is a web site that might be helpful on porting, but you probably would be better off finding a technician to set it up for you. http://portforward.com

An ATA stands for Analog Telephone Adapter, is a hardware that will be connected to your modem/Router and has a telephone jack for you to plug your telephone.

This device will allow to make/receive calls through the Internet to your normal adapter, is like your regular Dial up modem which will modulate the digital signal to analog and vice versa. :D

Hi digishop, Bridonca got ahead of you a little here.

ATA devices aren't used in conjunction with the software phone ("The Program") that you downloaded.

What you need to do is forward the ports from your router to the computer you're using Freephoneline on.

(What router do you have? I might be able to assist.)

You will need to know what your computer's IP Address on your network is.

Click the Windows/Start Button > Click Run > Type "CMD" > Press Okay

You should get a command prompt (Black box, lots of text.)

Type "ipconfig" > Press Enter

You'll get a respone something like this: (If you're wired it will say Ethernet instead of Wireless)

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

What you want is the IPv4 Address, write this down.

Then follow the portforward.com instructions for your router model, or ask for help here, by way of supplying us with your router model. (Even if it's just a Bell 2-wire)

What you are looking for is your router model, all you need to know then is which ports to open - Which are the ones Winston pointed out above.

This might make your life a little easier. In most routers, you can select a computer to a DMZ zone, where all the ports will forward to that selected computer. What you could do is set up the DMZ to the computer that has the freephoneline client, and that will likely fix your immediate problem.

www.portforward.com would be your best bet - they have screenshots and walkthroughs for almost all routers out there (mainstream ones at least)
