SMS function

Post by amitmeh »

It would be great if we could receive SMS on the softphone. I know that there are services that allow you to listen to text msgs via text-2-speech function.

But receiving a popup on the computer while using the softphone would be even better. I am not asking to send text msgs from FPL service but just receiving in a form of a popup.

Just my 2 cents!

You might want to look at google voice instead. they can forward an SMS to your gmail. Sending SMS's are free also. The downside is that is will be an American phone number as of now, and to register you need an American IP. The service compliments Freephoneline rather nicely though.

oh yea? The funny thing is that I have a google voice account. Now how do I forward my SMS to that service while still receive calls on a FPL number?

Freephoneline would not be involved in the SMS. I have a Gmail notifier extension for Firefox that tells me when there is any mail from my gmail account, and if there is an sms, that also gets sent to my gmail. I had to set up the text forwarding on google voice though.

I am certain a stand alone Gmail notifier exists, I never had a need for one.

I believe Bridonca was talking of the relay of SMS through Google Voice - Now if I were to send an SMS to my FPL number, from my cell phone it would read it to me as a call.

SENDING, however is different, which is what Steve was referring to there.
