Can not receive calls ..

Post by nick »

Can someone help? I have already purchased the account setup files.

Outgoing calls are perfect.

But I can not receive calls. Always says, "the person you are calling is not available"

I have already opened the following ports on my router,
5060 UDP, 6060 UDP, 6061 UDP, 13000 udp, 13001 udp

I have used a few VOIP services from a few providers. None of them need to open ports. I am not sure why FPL will need this kind of settings?

Is there anyway FPL can make any changes on the server side, so users no need to open ports ?

Thanks!

Actually, we did a few of these two weeks ago (http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1390).

Steve and I came in to the office one morning and tested 6 of the most common routers, as well as some higher end ones - The only one we could not get working at all was the DLink DIR-601, but it appears some buggy firmware caused that and an update resolved these issues.

May I ask what type of router you're using?

I had some problems with my D-Link DIR-615, turns out that

a) There was new firmware that was not shown on D-Link's site which said I had the latest. I found it, installed it, bingo. I found this by typing DIR-615 + VOIP and found many forums of people with my problem.

b) People actually hack firmware and make their own when stuff like this happens, turns out my new firmware was only released in the last 3 months, and before that there was a community-driven initiative to fix the problem that I could have solved the problem with before this happened.

May be good info for anyone or Mods because it took a while for me to get past all of this.

I am also thinking it might caused by the firmware. I am planning to install DD-WRT. It looks like for RT-N13U there is only a wip version available at the moment. (there is a stable version for your 615 already).

So probably just waiting for now.

I found a similar issue with the TrendNet TEW-632BRP wireless router (802.11n). Using any firmware this device would not consistently allow FPL to work properly with a Linksys PAP2T, even with any type of port forwarding or a DMZ setup. But using their TrendNet TEW-432BRP wireless router (802.11g) using any firmware it worked perfectly without any port forwarding or DMZ setup. It's a hit and miss with some routers. I struggled for several weeks trying to sort-out the config problems with the TEW-632BRP to no avail. Even my TP-Link TD-8616 ADSL2+ modem and single port router work just fine with FPL and Linksys PAP2 devices. Just goes to show that not all routers are built or work the same, even when they cost a lot of money.

D-Link actually botched up SIP support on several routers from around this time-frame - it's good to know the 615 is also one that's fixed by a firmware update. I know the DIR-605 is a common one we get complaints about because it's such a "budget friendly" router. I still have yet to see a new model come off the shelf with the updated firmware that fixes SIP though! D-Link still seems to be shipping them with the old firmware, which is causing more harm than good for novice users!
