You can't, basically. They get a termination charge from the telephone company that the calling person is using, so it stands to reason that Fongo will want all incoming calls answered - even if it is by an answer machine.

You 'can' get around it though, but it takes more work than it is probably worth.

I have a PBX here that deals with all my calls. When a call comes in I get the PBX to pick up the call, but send a ringing tone back to the caller. As far as Fongo is concerned the call is picked up and their voicemail will never kick in, but as far as the caller knows it is still connecting to us. Now I just tell the PBX to ring for XX seconds and then go to either my mobile or the internal answer phone.

I already had the PBX set up here, I have other trunks coming into the house, so this was no real effort for me to set up. If you don't have a PBX however it is probably just worth living with Fongo's voicemail system.

you can set it to ring up to 5 times on this page - https://www.freephoneline.ca/voicemailSettings

set your home machine to pickup on 4 and your set.
