Web account has different settings than iOS apps. :(

Post by nomad411 »

Hi,

A friend introduced me to your service, and I love it. I just bought texts, LD and removed ads this morning :)
.
I first created an account on http://freephoneline.ca , and then downloaded the app on iPad/iPhone.

I couldn't log in with the info, so he made me register straight from the iPhone.

The problem is this: I now have 2 different phone numbers for the same login. On the web I have one, and when I log in on the phone, with the same details, I have another.

Can my accounts be fixed and made to balance?

Freephoneline is not the same as the Fongo mobile app (it is, but you have to think of it as differently).

You actually have two accounts with the same login details. One for www.freephoneline.ca and one for www.fongo.com

By the sounds of it you don't need your FPL any longer so just forget about it and log in at www.fongo.com if you want to access your admin area of your account.

One thing to note is since you set the account up on your iPhone it is locked to iDevices - which means you won't be able to log in with an Android device for example.

Ohh ok, I see. My friend thought it was the same thing.

So I can delete my freephoneline account?

It was the number I preferred though, too bad it didn't work..

Either delete it or just leave it and it will expire once you don't use it for 3 months.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to just swap from one service to another. We have always been told to think of the companies as being different.

Ok, I'll leave it alone then.

How do I get Fongo on my Desktop though? Do I have to wait for 3 months for the freephoneline account to die before I can use Fongo on my desktop??

Would changing my email address in Fongo help?

Well this is the thing, and why people usually end up with several accounts anyway.

Fongo has the Home Phone and the mobile app
FPL has the desktop app and you can buy an unlock key to use the account with a 3rd party device.

Each company essentially uses the same backbone and has the same calling areas and areas where you can get a phone number. The difference comes with how you want to use the services, In all fairness it wouldn't make much sense to have both companies do the same thing, it's just a shame that most of us would like the features of both companies put into one.

So, if you want to use the desktop app, you have to keep a FPL account. If you want to use the mobile app, you have to keep the Fongo account. Most people end up forwarding one number to the other or making them both ring at the same time.

Ok, the mud is starting to clear...

So, at the moment at least, Fongo does not have a desktop app. If I were to want desktop service all with the same number, i'd have to get a 3rd party app and buy the VoIP key from Fongo?

I could see doing that if service keeps being as good as I've had it so far. :)

Thanks again

Not exactly. Fongo does not sell the unlock key any more, only FPL does.

What I think might suit you would be to forward your Fongo number to your FPL number, or make them ring simultaneously. This way you can get your incoming calls from either device.

Well, again thanks for all the help.

All that remains to clear up is why I cannot connectto FPL with my account, since they are not connected to Fongo having the exact same login. I'll connect to FPL online and change my details to test.

Thanks again
