My FPL software application can't seem to connect to the server. I've rebooted my laptop, I've restarted the application several times, firewall is turned off, but I still can't get connected. I also ran the Test Connection option in the menu and the results are:
Call Service is OK
Sound data transfer OK
This was working up till about an hour ago. I don't see any announcements regarding service interruptions.
Is this just me? Anyone else having problems getting connected to the server?
The last time I experienced this problem, there were network interruptions at FPL. Not sure where I can check the status of the FPL network to know if the problem is on my end or on FPL's.
Any insight appreciated!
Thanks.

Re: No Connection to the Server
I can confirm it's not our end, we're up and operational as usual.
Tried directly connected to the modem? Might be your router is filtering the VOIP Ports (easily fixable if that is the case)

Re: No Connection to the Server
Thank you for the reply Steve.
I don't know why my router would all of sudden start blocking the ports as of today when no changes have been made to it.
I tried to do a search on modem ports (several variations of those terms), but the forum search feature won't process it as the terms are too "common".
Could you please point me in the direction of instructions regarding which ports need to be opened on the router?
Once I have the ports, I'll try again. Thanks.

Re: No Connection to the Server
The ports are in the FAQ: http://www.freephoneline.ca/faq#30
Q.What do I need to do to get the softphone functioning properly after installing it?
A.Our softphone operates on UDP ports 13000, 13001, 5060, 5061, 6060 and 6061. Please make sure these ports are opened in any firewall, internet security suites and hardware routers you may have in your home.

Thanks, Laurent!
I do wish the search feature of the forums would actually work with VoIP terms that people are likely to use. I haven't been able to do one search for anything remotely VoIP related without the search feature indicating the terms are too common.

Re: No Connection to the Server
Yup! Same thing here! I even went to the suggestions box and suggested it. As this board runs phpBB, it takes less than 2 minutes to fix this.

Re: No Connection to the Server
Hi MIstral,
I ended up restarting my router (turning it on/off does the same thing). As soon as I did that that, the FPL software was working again. The problem was definitely the router, not FPL.
I didn't have to forward any ports at all.
What can make this confusing is that you can still have full internet access, everything else is working (web browsing, email, ftp, skype, etc), just not FPL.
So if you haven't tried restarting your router, do give that a try and see what happens.
Best of luck!
