I currently have a Freephoneline number and paid the $50 for SIP configuration.
I have a few questions about number porting:
1. If I port the number from my landline to FPL, does my existing FPL number immediately go back into circulation? Will someone else get the number and take calls from my friends & family or does FPL hold those numbers for a period of time before recirculating?
2. If I later needed to port my transferred-in number out of FPL to another provider, will I be able to get a new FPL number assigned to my line so as not to waste the $50 SIP configuration?
Thanks, MIKE

Re: Transfer Number IN/OUT
1. I believe it goes straight back into the pool. I have not heard that they hold the number before releasing it. A while back they ran out of Toronto numbers and the only time they became available again was when an account was closed releasing that number.
2. When you port your number out your account will be closed, as with most other phone companies, so yes you will loose your Unlock Key. I have found in the past that FPL is not a black and white company and are willing to work with customers if there are good reasons for doing so. If you had a very good reason for porting the number back out then they may be willing to replace that with another number (I'm not saying they will, but if you talk very nicely to them you may get lucky).
Generally the way I would look at it is the time you have the number with FPL you are saving yourself at least $50 a month, so even if you lost the unlock key you would be winning in the end financially.
