is it possible to forward a purchased FPL DID number to a SIP URI?
it seems we are limited to forward to phone numbers using the user control panel. Any way around this?

No, it does not seem it will happen anytime soon either. My guess is the reason they do not allow forwarding to a URIs is the same reason they do not allow forwarding to Freephoneline numbers. To make life more difficult for number harvesters.

that does indeed make sense for those who just use the free softphone, however for those who actually paid the $50 for their config file.. the option should be made available imo
