I've been with Bell/Rogers landline/homephone for years and finally made the plunge to switch. I looked at others with monthly fees, 3 year contracts etc., before finding FPL. Initially I was weary......the cost was too good to be true. Tested out FPL's softphone with no issues (and received a free phone number!).
After a week, I signed up and bought an ATA from Canada Computers, hooked it up to my Rogers Hiltron modem. Issue with not being able to hear the other caller (other caller was able to hear me) was resolved by disabling the Residential Gateway function on the Hiltron. My wife tested the setup with a 90 minute Canada long distance call. The sound quality was very clear, she said it sounded like a regular landline.
I should have signed up a long time ago. Thank you!
freephoneline.ca is awesome!

Oct 27, 2014 Update:
Just got my confirmation today from FPL that my old land line number is ready to be ported over (the order was placed 10 days ago). Changed the ADA configuration to match the old number. Plugged my cordless phone base station to the ADA box and now I have FreePhone throughout the house!
This sure beats paying $30+ a month!

It isn't for everyone, and it does need a bit of babysitting from time to time, but you are right FPL is awesome!

I agree, FPL is not for everyone. I will never tell my dad to get a FPL !!!Jake wrote:I found this out 5 years ago! and I have not looked back since. Can you imagine how much I have saved over those 5 years?

However, if you have ready to play around with your setting from time to time, then you are in the right place.
It's been over a month now and I think that my setup is pretty fine now.
