Sound problems on Desktop app for Mac

Post by curt »

I know that there have been a lot of postings already about the lack of sound. However, I couldn't find any postings where the problem happens on a Mac.

I installed the Freephoneline desktop app a few years ago initially. It worked successfully, but I haven't used it since then. Now, I tried it and it had "no connection to the server" and it suggested that I unblock UDP ports 6060 and 13000 in my firewall, which I did on my Bell 2Wire modem. This did not solve the connection problem. Then I found out that there is a newer version of the desktop app. So, I installed 3.2.7.0 and I don't get the connection error. When I make a call, the receiving phone rings. The receiving phone can hear the caller (from the FPL desktop app) faintly, but I, as the caller on desktop app, cannot hear anything.

Can anyone provide any suggestions on how to get this to work?

As you should see on my profile, I have the following:

Freephoneline desktop app 3.2.7.0
Mac OSX 10.6.8
Mac is connected to Asus GX-D1081 router, which is connected to the Bell 2Wire Gateway modem
Bell Sympatico DSL internet

I'd like to delete this posting if possible, as I got the new desktop application to work.

When I launch the application, it prompts me to choose an "Available host". The drop-down has 3 IP addresses. I chose the IP address for my Mac, which is the last one on the list, and it worked. (I don't know what the first two IP addresses are for.) Both caller and receiver can hear each other.

No need to add or change anything in my firewall in my Bell 2Wire Gateway modem.

To be honest it will probably be worth keeping the post, as you had a problem and managed to fix it. You will be surprised how many times it is just little things that get things going.

Your post just could help someone else out when they read this.
