Degraded Call Quality

Post by syuusuke »

Is it me or the call quality recently has been terrible? I'm getting some really bad lag and static noises. I've tried using a lower quality codec but still the same issue. I've also tried adjusting the jitter settings to see if it helps and it does a bit but still terrible lag when it does occur. What can I do to fix this issue? I'm using an Obi 110.

Call quality is great for me.
I'm getting some really bad lag and static noises.
This is likely due to a lack of QoS (are other people in your household using the internet while you're trying to talk on the phone), poor routing to the voip sip server, or internet congestion.
I've tried using a lower quality codec but still the same issue.
That can actually make things worse. So, use G.711u
What can I do to fix this issue?
Take a look at the following and ensure your settings are right:

If they are correct, configure QoS properly for VoIP.

Yuck
If all else fails, contact your internet service provider, and it's entirely possible you're facing congestion in your area during times when a lot of people are using the internet.
Your ISP may want some results from winmtr or pathping to the SIP server that you're using.
Try to run these tests between 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. when congestion in your area may be more likely to be severe.
