I use fongo mobile exclusively as my main phone line. mostly over wifi.
With my Iphone 4s i worked flawlessly but i recently switched to a Nexus 4 (I seem to have picked the worst possible phone for the app...)
The other party complains of hearing themselves in echo and I can't find a solution. I tried all the echo canceling settings but nothing works. I know the problem is the nexus 4 doesn't use echo canceling for fongo.
Here are the specs:
LG Nexus 4
Android 5.0.1
Fongo version 3.7.0.5
settings:
Java audio : off
Low bandwith : On
Echo canceller : On
Alternate Echo canceller: On
Alternate Call stream : Off (but i tried it on, didn't change anything)
No matter what combination i use there is still echo. I dropped mic gain and speaker volume to Zero. Echo is less present (bearable) but still audible, But people complain of hearing me far away. If I bring up mic gain, echo comes back..
Is there anyway to fix this on Nexus 4?
If I change phone, What is a decent android phone that works well with fongo mobile? On the fongo site they say some samsung and LG models have problems. Is there a list of phone that do not work well with the fongo app?
Thanks

Re: LG Nexus 4 problems
Hi there,
Please try this:
1. Enable Java audio
2. Raise the mic level from default- not too much (5%)
Try testing again after these changes.
Note: I am having the same device.

Re: LG Nexus 4 problems
Thanks I will try that.
I remember playing around with that setting but I don't remember it changing that much. I have 2 nexus 4's and both have the same problem.

Re: LG Nexus 4 problems
It seems to have done the trick thank you!
So
Java audio : ON
Low bandwith : On
Echo canceller : On
Alternate Echo canceller: On
Mic gain turned just up a bit from completely Off in Fongo settings.
Speaker volume completely turned down in fongo settings
tested only on two phone calls, one to cellular, one to landline. but seemed ok for both. I'll test it further in the coming week but it looks like i can stop looking for another phone.
Thanks!

Re: LG Nexus 4 problems
So upon further testing the echo is still there, if the speaker volume is too high.
I can live with that i guess.
When i call myself on another phone, it sounds like the whole nexus 4 is a microphone. It sounds like it uses both microphone in phase instead of phase reversing one of them to cancel out surrounding sounds. So people hear me, but they hear surrounding sounds just as much. But that would be a nexus problem and not a Fongo problem i think. Would adding a phase reverse option in Fongo for one of the microphones be possible?

Re: LG Nexus 4 problems
The problem with the Nexus 4 is that it is a brick, and it requires echo cancellation to get rid of the feedback of the microphone picking up sound from the phone speaker. I believe the difference between the Nexus and the Apple device, is that Apple uses their own echo cancellation, even from apps, whereas the Nexus requires the app to provide echo cancellation. I believe if you used a headset with it's own microphone, (coincidentally, apple headsets work on the Nexus), these echo problems will go away
