Fongo prompt / automatically re-dial call on bad wifi

Post by Gabriel »

I would like to suggest that the user is able to configure fongo so:
1. it would prompt the user to drop a call while on poor wifi coverage and restart the call over cellular
2. it would automatically redial a number over cellular if the call has dropped over wifi

Use case, call starts at home over wifi, user jumps into his car and drives away. Today, the call quality deteriorates and then drops (or user hangs up because of poor quality).

Bumping this thread, but with the slightly updated understanding that it appears with other SIP/calling apps they do handle the transition from WiFi to Cellular and vice versa quite well without even dropping the call, so the original suggestion in this thread may be the less-preferred option if an effective handoff can be achieved. Would love this feature, and I feel that if this was thoughtfully implemented, it would solve a lot of the other stability problems I sometimes see when a network switch is involved.

A few of the apps that seem to have implemented SIP/VoIP calling on an Android smartphone with effective handoff are:
  • OpenPhone
  • Zoiper
  • Google Hangouts Dialler
  • Cloud Softphone
