No incoming audio

Post by wormx »

Recently, on about 25-50% of my incoming calls, I get no audio -- it sounds as though the line is dead. However, the caller can hear everything I say. Anyone have any guesses as to why this might be happening?

Perhaps the ATA is set to jump to random ports, some of which aren't forwarded properly? Try to set it to not use random ports, only one fixed port (5060), and make sure it's forwarded properly.

The ports should be forwarded correctly -- the ATA has been working properly for months. It's only recently that the incoming audio started dropping. It seems to be getting more frequent.

It might be the phone you are using. Have you swapped it out and tried a different one?

They probably are, but the only way to eliminate this most frequent cause of incoming audio problem is to confirm it's proper setup.

It could be setup in a way, for example, that works "by chance". Meaning that, once in a while, it could end up with incorrect settings, a random port, a dynamically changing IP address, lots of things can go wrong, and nothing is 100% black or white.

I did double check all ports and port-forwarding. Everything is configured properly. Any other things that could be causing the problem? I also often get no dial tone on first try when trying to make outgoing calls.

Could you describe the equipment you have?
