On the 11th I was hooked up with my new DSL line as promised. After a bit of fiddling, mainly due to something I did, I got it up and running.
I would however like to point out a few things that FPL might like to look into.
Firstly, the lack of information. The hardware came by FedEx very quickly and had a couple of sheets of paper in them telling me what to do, which translates to "plug it in and it should all be OK". I waited (and to be honest I am still waiting) for some sort of welcome pack. The sheet of paper has various login details on it (including my FPL admin login name and password, which I was a bit surprised to see printed on a bit of paper). Nowhere could I find any information on the router nor any information on setting up emails.
Just by chance I went to superspeed.ca as it in my DSL Credentials and found a Squirrel Mail login screen. I entered my details and got logged in, but I have no idea what POP or IMAP settings I should be using, if any! I should be able to set up another email address in the bundle I bought, but that 'how to' is not documented either. I know I can call support and get answers to these questions, but with every other ISP I have had connections with here, in the UK, and in Spain; I have always been given this information up front. I'm sure support has more important things to do than to keep giving out details that could easily be added to the sheet of paper you send out.
Talking of the sheet of paper, there are a few mistakes that could be cleaned up.
In the first line you have "Thank you for signing up with freephoneline.ca.ca!". - one too many .ca
Under the login details you have "VOIP Configuration Portal:
https://www.freephoneline.ca" - http, instead of https?
Just below that you have "Help for the Porta VOIP..." - Portal?
Overall I am delighted with everything. I am not complaining here, just trying to point a few things out. I would recommend this package to anyone. But to recap, I would like to see/know/change
1. What are my email POP/IMAP account details?
2. I'm not sure I like my VOIP username and password printed out on a bit of paper and sent to me. I have other ways of getting my password if I forget it.
3. At least a link to the manual for the router (I have it now, but it took some looking).
4. Change the few typos. My spelling is not the best, but these should be fixed.
Thanks for everything FPL, I now can let my girls watch all the youtube videos they like.
