I have Bell Internet and a new Asus RT-N16 router with an ethernet cable running to a D-Link DVG-2001S ATA. A phone is also connected to the ATA.
I have inputted the info from the FPL config kit but am having a problem.
I do get a dial tone on the handset. Dialing out on the handset only results in a busy signal. Calling the freephoneline number goes to voicemail.
I believe I need to port forward but am uncertain which one. As I am new to all of this, any help would be appreciated. Also, any opinions on whether I'd be better, for SIP purposes as well as other uses, switching the router firmware to DD-WRT or Tomato?
Thank you.
Can't make or receive calls through handset

Davemay,
Welcom to FPL, this is an amazing free residential telephone service that I ever seen. Their supports are even better than most of the traditional telephone companies.
Checkout the device config thread here, there are many solutions to answer your question.
http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewforum.php?f=15
Basically, you will make sure the port 5060-6061, 10000-13000 opened on your router.
ATA set the 1st choice codec to G729A
Set ATA use DHCP to get IP address from your router
SIP port on ATA set to 5060
RTP port set to any port you will open on your router. e.g. 10000
DTMF insertion set to both "in-audio" and "RTP RF2833".
ATA "Message Waiting Indication subscription" set to ON.
Relax the firewall route on your router as far as possible to get it works first and then tighten the rules until you hit a bump. Then relax one step back.
Use "reserve" IP on your router for a dedicated internal IP address for your ATA.
If necessary, set up virtual server port 5060, 5061for UDP traffic associate with the internal IP of your ATA to ensure SIP communication.
For details of how to set it up, check out the above thread. If not find, leave a help request in that thread with your ATA model in the subject line and I am sure Laurent, FunkyTown and others would like to offer you a help hand.

Re: Can't make or receive calls through handset
Davemay,
Just check the user manual of your Asus RT-N16 router, it is too smart that I could not find any page telling you how to tweak with the firewall settings.
The only place I find is the EzQosbandwidth and you could choose the Voip/Vidoe Stream as 1st priority and that's it, nothing else.
I couldn't find a place that you can play with the port setting, virtual server, etc. that is the fundamental requirements to make the voip work with FPL.
I have a ASUS multi-purpose wireless apdator WL-330GE it is fantastic but again you have min control of firewall and port setting.
Good luck to your setting or you may need to reflash it with DD-WRT that provide a lot more control of firewall and port settings.
Here is a thread regarding an earlier model of Dlink ATA similar to your one for your reference.

Re: Can't make or receive calls through handset
Typically, Bell modems are routers themselves. Putting another router behind it will work fine for most outbound traffic requests (surfing the web for example), but inbound might represent a challenge. If your bell modem is a router, and is activated, then perhaps you should put the ATA directly at the modem and get to the modem's web config page to forward the required ports.davemay wrote:I have Bell Internet and a new Asus RT-N16 router with an ethernet cable running to a D-Link DVG-2001S ATA. Otherwise, certain modems can have their router disabled. You would then need to go into your Asus router and configure PPPoE to establish the link with bell instead. You could then set port forwarding in the Asus router itself, with the ATA behind it.
Is it slow busy signal, or fast busy signal? If it's fast busy, it could mean a number of things, but the most frequent is an incorrectly set dial plan (or dial string.) I don't know what is the format of D-Link's. If it's formatted like Linksys, try the one in PFL's webpage SIP settings. Or try mine: http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic ... 579&p=8523Dialing out on the handset only results in a busy signal.
