[CLOSED] Smartphone Application Beta Testers Wanted!

Post by FONGO_steve »

In preparation for an upcoming product launch, freephoneline is calling on you, our users, for some feedback!

We are seeking a knowledgeable group of 20 beta testers to test our upcoming smartphone application. This application is not SIP based, but is designed as a dialling application to connect you into our network and give you free long distance calling! With this application you only pay for local airtime but are able to call all our free calling cities for no charge. By using vouchers, international calling to anywhere in the world is also possible.

Beta testers will need to have a few basic qualifications:
• Must be able to thoroughly test and regularly use the application during the test period to help identify bugs.
• Must promptly and clearly report all bugs to us.
• Must be able to install new updates and fixes as they become available and to help ensure that these updates fix any previously mentioned bugs.
• Must understand that the Beta does not reflect the final product and that despite the branding, it is still a freephoneline product.
• Must read and agree to our Terms and Conditions.

What’s in it for you?
• You’ll be a part of testing an application that could put an end to outrageous long distance charges for mobile phone users!
• During part of the testing period, you’ll get some complimentary long distance voucher minutes to place calls to destinations anywhere in the world outside of our free calling city list!
• All active testers will be entered in a draw to win a year of free Superspeed internet!
* Must live in a qualified location

Interested? Send the following details in an email to mobilebeta@freephoneline.ca
UPDATE: Testing is currently closed as the product has now launched

Name:
Mobile Number:
Mobile Device:
(Must be Blackberry OS 4.5 or newer, iPhone or Android 2.1 or newer)
Mobile Device software and platform versions: (Platform not applicable to iPhone or Android)
Cell phone carrier:

We will sort through all the applications and follow-up with the selected applicants.

Thanks Steve, that is sweet to know that we'll have a phone app. But I am not sure I understand well about the "pay for local airtime', but call "free calling cities for no charge". What does it mean?

The application will automatically connect you to a local access number in whichever city you're in (provided we have coverage there). You can then call through the application, for free, to all of our free calling area cities and thus not pay long distance to your cell provider. Only local airtime is used to call the access number. If you have a my5/my10 plan or unlimited calling after a certain time of day, then everything could essentially be unlimited ;)

Steve, thanks for the explanation. That's cool and sounds like nettalk.com, but that could use 3G/WiFi, and still uses SIP behind the non-SIP-like setting. Other than that, it works just as you mentioned above. Hope the FPL App works similarly.

already there.

have a android g1... using a simple dialing rule application (for use with phone cards) , basic $4 long distance package for use with my cell and home (with my world line dry loop dsl)... I have had UNLIMited calling from anywhere in canada to anywhere in canada. Set the FPL local acces number to my area and signed up for my5 long distance

I have had a flat rate cell phone with literally thousands of outgoing minutes at no charge ( and i am on the road on weird places 8-12 hours every day)

now of there was an option to have anyone calling my free phone line number be directed to my cell and inject its number in my call display i would be in love , cause i would have free inbound also

name of application

on marketplace (android) Phonecard Express

http://sites.google.com/site/androidphonecardexpress/

simple rule is dial the local access number for my area (705) 881 1900, I have the worldine long distance package unlimited canada, and a my 5 with rogers

couple commas for a pause ................ uncheck append # to phone number.. this program is intergrated into the android dialer - every outgoing call you are given the option of direct dial or use fav card. U can create dialing rules so your other my 5 are direct dial automatically also

$4.00 a month - free long disatnce on my PFL number and on my cell too. - using your guys long distance service from worldine.ca - or better yet people should order the dsl there and it is included as a feature

There has to be a simple phone card program for the iphone i would imagine also.

No plans as of yet, sorry. Currently the only supported devices for the applications are Blackberry(OS 4.5+), iPhone, or phones running Android 2.1 and up.

I have read that all this application does is automatically dial the local access number so that people can use their smartphone to access their freephoneline account. For people without smartphones, why not just offer a list of local access numbers so that anyone can use another phone to access their freephoneline account?

The application doesn't actually call out through your freephoneline number or connect through your existing freephoneline number in any way. For several marketing purposes, at launch time the service will only be available as a smartphone app. Essentially, the desktop application (or SIP settings) will cover your home usage, and the smartphone app will allow you to take your free calling on the go.

Thank you for the clarification. Many of my friends are asking me questions about freephoneline and I am glad to be able to answer them.
