Someone is using my Fongo As a Caller ID
About three weeks ago I started to receive a large number of telephone calls from the people calling me back because someone just called and hangup on them. They claim that the caller ID shows YT (Yukon Territory?) but the area code is local to Ottawa - 613. Anybody know what's going on? Is it even possible to use my phone number to appear on someone else telephone call? Please help, people keep calling me back almost every five minutes.

Yes, some VoIP services allow scammers to spoof whatever outgoing number and name that they want. It's incredibly easy to do. And they could be calling from India, for example; if so they couldn't care less about Canadian laws.OttawaAreaCode wrote: Anybody know what's going on? You could try reporting the problem here: http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifr ... ex-eng.htm.

Re: Someone is using my Fongo As a Caller ID
Thanks for the reply, but I don't see how reporting this problem to the anti-fraud center will help me to resolve my problem. For starters, they are don't appear to defraud anybody; the people keep calling me back because they got called but the call was dropped when they attempted to answer, so they just call back on the phone number that showed up on their caller ID. Second of all, if I report it to the anti-fraud center I would essentially complain about my myself... Hopefully, this is going to stop soon on its own. For now, I just set up an automated message advising people what's going on. I opened a few tickets with Fongo, but they closed them and advised me to look for a solution on the forum. Thanks anyway.

It may very well be a scam. At the very least it's harassment.OttawaAreaCode wrote:Thanks for the reply, but I don't see how reporting this problem to the anti-fraud center will help me to resolve my problem. For starters, they are don't appear to defraud anybody
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/scams-fraudes/rep-sig-eng.htm
"If you have not lost any money and have not provided personal or financial information (relating to a fraud or scam), and you simply want to inform the appropriate organizations, report it to the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre (CAFC) by calling 1-888-495-8501."
Someone there may be able to provide further advice--or at least let you know whether nothing can be done.
The service you'd be contacting would know better. This issue is hardly new or unheard of.Second of all, if I report it to the anti-fraud center I would essentially complain about my myself
No service provider can do anything about third parties spoofing your number.I opened a few tickets with Fongo
