Windows 7 issues

Post by victor1242 »

Has anyone successfully used the softphone application on windows 7?
I have installed it, tried it unsuccessfully, uninstalled and reinstalled it.
Still no success. I have also tried it with the firewall turned off. I do have it working
properly on two different xp machines.

It fails to complete the call. There is on ring on the call.
The status shows the call is connected or at least the connect timer is running, but that is it.
Voicemail also fails to respond back even though the connect is apparently good.

I've used it successfully on Windows 7 x64 from a hotel in atlanta when I was there earlier this year.

** 2011.02.02 ** updated to include that I had used the x64 version of Windows 7

Unsure if perhaps you are using a x64 version of windows 7. Can you please check back with an answer as to which version and include a note on your pc hardware.

I can use the provided softphone on XP x64 and I have tried it successfully on a version of Win7 PE 32bit. Though it is a bit difficult to set up, once it is installed properly, it works after rebooting the Windows PE session. Any traveller knows that having a PE rescue/restore/session disk (usb or cd/dvd) installation tailored to their laptop with drivers and software can be a lifesaver in an emergency (hard drive won't boot, etc). I have done this for my laptop and have included the freephoneline softphone app (and JRE) as an installed portable app. Everything critical to making and receiving calls or checking messages works. Most settings won't be saved (speed dial, app options, send caller ID) after you shutdown and reboot the PC and some of the web functions don't work but what is important is being able to use the phone and picking up voicemails and email...

If anyone is interested, I will post a procedure to help you get this running. It is easy but takes a bit of time and is definitely for advanced Windows users with a good understanding of their own hardware & drivers and a sound knowledge of PE.
