[Solved] This account number is not valid - HELP please

Post by Bob »

This account number is not valid,

Hi all (especially freephoneline folks),
I still have my favorite problem of "this account number is not valid", when some people call me, and now I have a question. Is this phrase FPL specific, or anyone of you hear this voice promt anywhere else - any other provider ( bell, at&t, etc. ) ?

Please help, as I'm totally confused here, and probem persists for two month.

If this is FPL specific phrase (and I believe so, as it speaks about ACCOUNT not about PHONE NUMBER) could someone from FPL tell me - what exactly cause this phrase to be given to incoming caller ?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Bob

Update. After all it was a problem with bell ( beavers ... ) :) . fixed now :) hurray.

I had it happen to me with my Asterisk server because my registration string for my trunk didn't match my account number. But, I see you are using a PAP so that problem doesn't apply to you.

Hi tbrummell - it's really interesting, because my phone number with FPL was changed, so potentially it could be same story, but on FPL side. Could you please provide more details in this topic? Thanks.

I originally tested FPL with their provided number and config file, then changed to my "normal" number after it was ported in, just like yourself.

In Asterisk, to get an inbound call the trunk must register(Before I get jumped on by the Asterisk enthusiasts, yes there are other ways to get incoming trunk calls, but this is the most common). The format is "phone_number:password@voip.freephoneline.ca/phone_number", with that string Asterisk registers to the VoIP trunk supplier. Well, when I switched from my FPL number to my "normal" number, I only change the first "phone_number" in the string. This allowed my to place calls, but any time I tried to call my new registered number I received the same message as you.

So, it sounds like this phrase belongs to Asterix-like piece of software/hardware that isn't configured properly due to switch of phone number.
The interesting story is - it's not everyone who hear this (I could call myself w/o any problem, and even those guys who normally not able to call me "from time to time" able to do it. So it looks like there is some set of servers in FPL, and some (perhaps one) of them aren't configured properly from redirect, so all guys who are "lucky" enough to get by this server are rejected, and their only lucky chance is downtime of this server, when they send to properly configured one.

I'd like someone to discuss possibility of this option with technical support :(
